Audio Cookbook on Make: Blog

Yesterday afternoon the popular and renowned Make: Blog posted an article about my recent ACB entry, Processing Sound Using Photoshop. From the article:

Over at Audio Cookbook, John Keston has been running a few experiments with using image filters in Photoshop to process sound. Running the audio data through a Gaussian blur or Spherize filter, he was able to create some incredibly diverse effects from a simple electric piano input.

In addition to Make: the article has been written about on many other blogs in English and German including Synthtopia and Media Synesthesia. Who knew it would create such a stir?

AudioCookbook.org on Create Digital Music

Special thanks are in order for Peter Kirn, editor of Create Digital Music (CDM), for posting an article about AudioCookbook.org on CDM. You may have noticed that CDM has been linked here since I started the site. It’s one of my favorite sites relating to modern music production with tons of great resources and articles. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in music technology.

In the article Peter writes, “Sound design secrets have traditionally been closely-guarded secret sauce. But in the age of the Web, the opposite is happening: people can actually enjoy sharing what they’re doing, just as passionate cooks chat about recipes on food blogs. Case in point: reader John Keston writes to tell us about AudioCookbook.org, on which he’s blogging a new sound each day. Not only is this a nice way to talk about techniques with fellow enthusiasts, but it’s a great example of how you can use blogging to encourage you to get things accomplished, rather than just distracting you.”

One Day to Save All Life

Keston and Westdal’s third album titled One Day to Save All Life (ODTSAL) is currently available for pre-ordering through Unearthed Music. The CD package will be printed on 100% recycled paper and the CD tray is made from 100% post consumer waste. All pre-orders will be shipped on, or up to two weeks before the scheduled release date of March 25, 2008.

A CD release party is schedule on March 29, 2008 at the Minnesota Museum of American Art (MMAA.org). Other artists include Kyle Herskovitz, Cepia (Ghostly International) and Primadonahue. An industry listening party is TBA.
