Solo Album will Coincide with 365th Daily Sound

Precambrian ResonanceI have discussed releasing a solo album centered around the musical output that has emerged as a result of creating One Sound Every Day on ACB. That day has finally come. I have agreed to release my solo album under my moniker, Ostraka, on July 28, 2009, coinciding with my 365th sound. The album is called Precambrian Resonance (Unearthed Music, 2009), a title I used for the ninth sound posted in the OSED category.

It includes fifteen tracks that all began as experiments posted on ACB. Ten of the tracks are full-length compositions, while the remaining five are shorter “micro-tracks” that were originally featured on ACB. The album is available immediately as a download-only pre-release through my label partner Unearthed Music. Here’s the opening track, Illuminator Console.

Unique Outro for Spring in December

barThis section of Spring in December by Keston and Westdal with Graham O’Brien on drums was recorded at the Kitty Cat Klub on Sunday, June 21, 2009. As an ensemble we have been improvising more and more within the arrangements of our current material. This is a result of our comfort with the material, but also the monotony of playing mostly the same repertoire for over a year. Recently we’ve been making an effort to change this by scheduling rehearsals to refine new material for recording and performances.

Name My New Project

light_controllerHere’s a segment from another jam session using the GMS with Graham O’Brien on drums. This was our second attempt, and performed at a slower tempo than the third piece that I posted excerpts from recently. I’m looking forward to the next session because I’ve done a bit of refining within the GMS code, including some optimization and bug fixing.

I was going to name this project “Particle System” (as in particles of light that drive the GMS), but then I learned that there’s a popular band called “Particle” and decided against it. I’m horrible at naming things, so if any of you ACB readers have any brilliant ideas, let ‘um fly.

Late April MAW Outing GMS Excerpt #4

Here’s another segment from the late April MAW outing. Once again the stuck note persists. A vibes patch is in use, and a key change occurs at one minute and seven seconds into the excerpt.

Late April MAW Outing GMS Excerpt #3

Here’s a third segment from the late April MAW outing. Almost the entire hour and five minutes of this set has a drone throughout the sound. The drone is a stuck note that happened early on in the set. I had yet to create the ability to stop stuck notes. I managed to use the drone for the performance, but needless to say, I fixed the problem soon afterward.
