Battle of Everyouth (66:40 to 77:37)

This eleven minute section from our performance during The Battle of Everyouth at the Minneapolis Institute of Art started shortly after Jon Davis switched from playing bass to bass clarinet. Throughout this section I was mostly turning knobs on the Monotron and Pro-One while DJ Luke Anderson processed and looped the bass clarinet and Graham O’Brien played drums.

DGK at Try This #2 (Part 2)

Here’s the second full length segment from the DGK set at the Try This #2 on March 25, 2011. Soon I’ll be posting two or three more segments from the set to complete the non-stop one hour and twenty nine minutes of our performance.

DGK Improv with Drums, Soprano Sax, Pro-One, Monotron, Posc, and Grain Machine

This 1:52 minute segment of improvisation from the DGK performance at Try This 2 on March 25, 2011 contains drums by Tim Glenn, Soprano Sax by Jon Davis, and jumble sale of gear played by yours truly. These instrument include, in order of appearance, the Sequential Circuits Pro-One, followed by the Korg Monotron, my handmade Sonodrome Posc, and my Max for Live, granular synth, Grain Machine. Prior to this performance I had been limiting my palette of textures to the Rhodes and the Pro-One, but for this performance I thought I would try including the Monotron, Posc, and Grain Machine in order to draw from a few more atonal colors.

Korg Monotron Clip from Live Set

Here’s a sound I coaxed out of the Korg Monotron during my live set at Nick and Eddie Thursday Funhouse that I mentioned in the last article. One again, you can download the entire set here. In my previous demos of the Monotron I used no processing, so this time I decided to present it exactly as it was performed in the live set, through stereo delay and reverb sends. The sound of this minute instrument never ceases to amaze me.
