Summer Glau Triple Mash and Cooked by Teru

While browsing ccMixter recently I came across this track called Summer Glau by John Anealio remixed by Teru that incorporates sounds from ACB including Pro-One Dub and apparently Synthesizer Fifths Drone although I couldn’t make it out in the mix. In any case, after a bit more browsing I came across another Teru mix called Cooked (mega downtempo) that uses Synthesizer Fifths Drone, Rhodes Wah Wah, Electric Razor, and Door Stop all sounds I posted on AudioCookbook.org. I must admit that it is fun to come across examples of ACB samples being used by other artists. I’ve linked the tracks below, or visit Teru’s page on ccMixter to hear what else he has on offer. You can also checkout the Audio Cookbook Sample Pool to hear how other artists are using ACB samples.

Mississippi (Founders Mix)

AudioCookbook.org has been featured today on ccMixter, “ccMixter is a community music site featuring remixes licensed under Creative Commons where you can listen to, sample, mash-up, or interact with music in whatever way you want.” Along with the announcement, the ccMixter artist, Victor (aka fourstones) posted a remix called Mississippi (Founders Mix) using several recordings from AudioCookbook.org. Samples used include, Roof Racket, Piano Mallet Loop, Pro-One Dub, AM Radio Static, Time Expanded Radio Static, vocals by Kristin Hersh and several others. Checkout the mix on ccMixter for more information. Since the track uses several samples from AudioCookbook.org I am posting it here as today’s entry into the “One Sound Every Day” project. This marks the first time that I have not directly produced the daily sound, however, I feel this is an excellent example. If you like the track, head over to ccMixter and give some love to Victor for this tasty mashup.

Video Game Music Remixes

One of the projects that I assign in my audio production class is an exercise on how to import MIDI files into Reason and assign specific instruments to each track. I usually demonstrate this with a random classical MIDI file from classicalarchives.com and end up with a Tomita-esque rendition of Mussorgsky.

The Lost WoodsHowever, I do not limit the assignment to classical works. Sometimes, students make clever remixes of popular music, and frequently they choose music from classic video games like this remix of the Lost Woods theme from the Legend of Zelda – The Ocarina of Time by Brandon Sullivan. Brandon creatively chose some unique patches for this piece and then added a drum-n-bass beat to the end of the sequence that elevates the energy and takes the Lost Woods on a wayward yet intriguing new path.

Later I’ll add some more examples to this post. Also, if you have any interesting examples of video game music remixes and would like to share, please post a link in a comment below.
