Battle of Everyouth Segment (103:28 to 105:44)

Northern Spark is behind us and it was a wonderful event. I performed music for three non-stop, consecutive hours with DKO and DJ Luke Anderson on the steps of the MIA during the Battle of Everyouth while Jenny Schmid and Ali Momeni and their talented team of artists and volunteers transformed the museum into a new media artwork with interactive projections and participatory video capturing madness. Here’s a brief segment from the performance starting 103:28 in and finishing at 105:44.

Arpeggiated Vexations Phrase

Here’s sample of parts that I have prepared for participation in the Empty Words performance at Northern Spark. I used the Roland MKS-80 and the Bitstream 3X to create this evolving passage based on the original score for the piece Vexations by Erik Satie. In my interpretation I arpeggiated the bass clef notes on a tritone to create a flowing, angular pattern to contrast the traditionally methodical piece. As my interpretation continued I sped up the arpeggiator from eights to twelves to sixteenths and so on.

The Battle of Everyouth Rehearsal Segment X

I’m very excited to be participating in two performances during the Northern Spark Festival on Saturday, June 4 through Sunday, June 5, 2011. From dusk until dawn. First up is the Battle of Everyouth from 9pm until 12am on the steps of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. (A segment from tonights rehearsal can be heard below.) Secondly I will be performing an electronic rendition of Vexations by Erik Satie for Empty Words by Piotr Szyhalski, a nine hour multi-media event involving a long list of excellent performers. More on my part in this soon.
